Reviewer: A. M. Taymoori,
I bought this DVD player because I travel a lot
and pass a lot of time in trains. I used it in a
long trip which took 23 hours and this DVD player
was my best friend in that trip!
It has a very excellent screen quality, excellent sound quality
and if charged enough ( until the red light turns off)
it'll play back for 2 hours. It's not very light but
excellent enough for travel.
The only problem is that it comes without a bag! You need
to get a bag or cover for it.
Fantastic travel companion and backup DVD player

This item serves two purposes for me: 1) Plays titles that my pretty-ancient DVD player cannot play. I just plug it into the AUX port on my ancient DVD player. 2) Plays DVD movies that I take along to hotel rooms when traveling. It does both flawlessly and the remote is very capable from sitting on a bed across the room in the hotel or at home.

Another bonus is that I don't have to lug my PC around just to play movies on a plane, for example. This player is quite light and compact.

Did a test on battery life and it was right around 2 hours.

Sound is fantastic through headphones as well as through AUX port or directly through TV video ports in hotel room. Sound through its own speakers works, but recommend headphones. Picture via video ports looks just as excellent as my home DVD player and LCD picture is what you would expect (i.e., excellent considering size).

I recommend this product for those seeking similar DVD player capabilities.
a very excellent portable DVD player--with just one thing to keep in mind

(4.5 stars)

This portable DVD player by Phillips really comes in handy when I am on a commuter train into the city or when I just want to prop myself up in bed and watch a DVD! The machine just plains looks and feels very well made (which it is); and I give it high marks for being so simple to use even without reading the directions which come in several different languages. The remote is remarkably thin but it works like a charm and the quality of the widescreen picture is really quite excellent. The sound is excellent and you can easily adjust it if you wish. It comes with a car adaptor so your children or others can watch a movie while you're on the road; and the electric power supply with its cord is reliable. The rechargeable battery pack allows up to 2 hours but really I would count on it lasting about 1 ½ hours; batteries always seem to run down quick when the machine is playing a DVD. It also plays MP3s and CDs so you have the option of keeping your portable CD player at home and just use this alone instead. It works with many different types of earphones so you can watch movies and listen to music without disturbing others. Some of the buttons and knobs on the DVD player itself are pretty small but they should not pose any real problems for you when you operate this.

This DVD player is pretty slender so it fits easily into a carryon bag if you take this on an airplane when you go on vacation. I wouldn't pack it in a suitcase because suitcases get bumped around in flight; and sometimes suitcases aren't handled with the same care that you give to your carryon luggage.

There's one cautionary note about this DVD player, but. It will play DVDs that we buy and own here in America--and Canada as well. It also plays my DVDs that I make when I record a movie off the television. But, it plays only PAL DVDs--and NOT (sorry, but I must repeat NOT) play Region 2 DVDs. Be careful of this before you buy this machine. Some people (and I used to be one of them so I'm not looking down my nose at you) reckon that Region 2 is just another way of saying PAL DVDs. Unfortunately, for some technical reason, PAL DVDs and Region 2 DVDs are not the same. If you need a portable DVD player that can also play Region 2 DVDs (which are primarily manufactured in Fantastic Britain and other European countries) you need to look further.

Overall, I recommend this portable DVD player for people who want to watch their DVDs, both commercial and homemade, wherever they are. It's very well made and you can use it to keep anyone entertained in the car on road trips, too. Just please remember that while it can play PAL DVDs it cannot play Region 2 DVDs. Otherwise this is a very excellent portable DVD player.

Item preformed very well. Took on trip with us to Vegas. If taking on a airplane very much suggest that you buy a headset so as not to disturb your fellow passengers.
